50 Shades of Grey

A 30k cycle ride that was fun if a little wet.

After a couple of gorgeously sunshiny days, unfortunately this morning dawned dull and cloudy, and the weather forecast was not much more optimistic. Still, Saturday morning is Saturday morning; for me the best day to get out and about. I fancied a bike ride today, so I planned a 30 km route, got the bike out and set off. Still no hint of sunshine, so I thought I’d set the camera to black-and-white, if only to give me an excuse to use the blog title!

First stop, the canal ...

... then over the railway line ...

.. and onto the cycle path
.. and onto the cycle path

At this point it began to rain, but I remained optimistic that it would clear up. After all, a bit of rain wasn’t putting these little guys off …

It took me back 50 years to when I used to play in the school team, and then back 15-20 years ago to when I watched my two sons play on Saturday mornings.

It’s an old brewery, based around a tower that dates back to the 14th century.

I think I will return here in the spring and pay a visit to the place.

Obviously in this area of Belgium they like their beer …

And then as the clouds darkened further (I think I counted the 51st shade of grey) I crossed the River Demer.

There is an excellent cycle path all along the River Demer, which I am planning to cycle along in the near future

By this stage the rain was quite heavy, and I soon got rather wet.

In fact I wouldn't have been much wetter if I had jumped in the river!
