Picture the scene.
It’s a hot day in the Voerstreek, with the temperature rising to above 26 degrees Celsius. I’ve been walking since nine o’clock in the morning, and now it’s four in the afternoon.
I’ve walked about 23 kilometres, and I have about three left.
I’m hot. I’m tired. My throat is parched. I’ve drunk all my water. Civilization and the nearest shop or café is still 45 minutes away. But currently I’m in the middle of nowhere.
And then I round a bend and see … a mirage? An illusion?
No, it really is this:
An AUTOMATIC ICE-CREAM VENDING MACHINE!
I couldn’t believe it. I’ve blogged about automatic vending machines in Belgium, selling bread, potatoes, strawberries, butter, milk … but never ice-cream.
What a brilliant idea!
I quickly got my 2 euros out and very much enjoyed and appreciated a lovely cooling and refreshing tub of straciatella ice-cream!
Ah, I can imagine your relief and the boost it must have given you 🙂
Yes, the last few kms were so much more pleasant!
haha, in Belgium there’s simply no way to starve of hunger or thirst…
This could catch on! Lovely surprise.
What a great idea! I’ve come across a cupcake vending machine in New York City, but ice cream would be even better!
Now you have an idea for your next business venture!
Perfect – what a wonderful find!
Wonderful idea – every place should have one of these!!
Totally agree Joy! Certainly on the top of every steep hill!
Lucky you found this vending machine before you expired! What a great idea. We stayed in a hostel in Dublin once where there was a cheeseburger vending machine. My girls thought they were in heaven!
And probably Mr ET too! 😉
No, from what I remember, he ordered pizza! I couldn’t believe my girls would eat vending machine burgers!
If there is going to be a vending machine, one with ice cream would be a bonus. 🙂 Like the new look of the blog – very upbeat. 🙂
Ha. Great find. Just what you needed
This is fun surprise.. Loved it.
It was certainly a lovely surprise to see when I rounded that corner!
