Belgium is home to a variety of beautiful parks and gardens that offer residents and visitors alike a chance to enjoy nature and outdoor spaces.
These green areas range from formal gardens with intricate designs to sprawling natural reserves.
In Brussels, the Cinquantenaire Park stands out with its grand arch and museums, while the nearby Royal Greenhouses of Laeken showcase stunning Art Nouveau architecture and exotic plants. The Botanic Garden Meise, just outside Brussels, is one of the largest botanical gardens in the world, featuring an extensive collection of plants in both outdoor and indoor settings.
Other notable parks and gardens in Belgium include the Citadel Park in Ghent, a 19th-century park built on former fortifications, and the Sonian Forest, a vast beech forest spanning several municipalities around Brussels. In Bruges, the Minnewater Park (below) offers a romantic setting with its “Lake of Love” and swans.

In Wallonia a highlight is the Domaine de Mariemont in Hainaut province. This former royal estate features a beautiful English-style landscape park designed in the 19th century. It’s home to the Royal Museum of Mariemont, which houses an impressive collection of art and antiquities. The park itself is renowned for its diverse collection of trees, including several rare species, making it a favorite spot for both history buffs and botanists.
