What’s Pint of Science?
Pint of Science is an annual international science festival that takes place every May. It brings researchers to your local pub to show you the latest happenings in the world of science. In 2017, the festival held 574 events across 10 countries, involving over 80,000 attendees. This year the festival will be held simultaneously in 21 countries, including — for the first time — Belgium.

What’s on the program?
Events usually include two or three talks by scientists, as well as a fun interactive activity. All sorts of fascinating topics are on the program. Here’s a few that caught my eye.
Aging of the Brain. How does your brain evolve and age? Is your brain the same age as the rest of your body? What’s the difference between forgetfulness, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease? Monday 14th May, KapiteinÂ Zeppos, Vleminckveld 78, 2000 Antwerp, 7-10 pm
While you were sleeping. What is actually happening when you sleep? Why is it so crucial to our day-to-day existence? Can you learn while you sleep? Tuesday 15th May, Jester, 2-4 Avenue de la Porte de Hal, 1060 Brussels, 7-10 pm
Resistance and failures. Less is more? Antibiotics, paracetamol … we hear so often that too much medication is not OK. But do we listen? And the negative consequences are only getting bigger. Tech me out! Cell phones, space debris and the dark web. Ever wondered what information your smartphone broadcasts? Do you want to know what happens to discarded satellites? What can (or should) we do on the ‘dark web’? Wednesday 16th May, Belgaleiro, Goudsbloemstraat 50, 3000 Leuven, 7-10 pm
