Rather than tell you what I’ve done, I thought I’d give you advance warning of something that I plan to do this weekend — and which maybe you could join too? It’s the Ronde van Leuven, a circular cycle ride you can enjoy this Sunday, August 28th (2016).
I described what to expect from local cycling events like these in my a recent post. They are a great way to get some exercise and see the local beauty spots, by following a well-signposted route. They are very family-oriented. At each of the starting points, entertainment also takes place for those who want to make a day of it and sit on a café terrace listening to a local band or sending your kids off to a bouncy castle.
You can register at any of these six starting points:
- Bierbeek: Dorpsstraat 28
- Blanden: Bierbeekstraat 8/b
- Kortrijk-Dutsel: Dorpsplein
- Linden: Kerkdreef 2
- Lovenjoel: Kerkstraat 1/a
- Winksele: Warotstraat
Here you can sign up for a 20, 40 or 70 km ride that will take you through the greenest areas around Leuven. It costs 4 EUR which includes insurance.
The registration centres will be open from 8 a.m. As Sunday promises to be another scorchingly hot day, I’m planning to be at Winksele at 8 a.m. to complete my 70 km ride before it gets too hot.
Maybe I’ll see you there, or on the route somewhere?

Thanks for the informative post. Do you happen to know if the route is open or closed to traffic for the duration of the event?
I doubt very much if the route will be closed to traffic, but I think the smaller one, which will be more suitable for children and families, will avoid busy roads. Incidentally, it’s car-free day in Leuven too on that day.
Many thanks for the info.
It sounds like you will have a lovely day, Denzil. Take some photos!
Hope you didn’t melt, Denzil!! Waiting to see some pix 🙂
No Wendy I didn’t. But I started early before it got too hot.
