Two tours for Internationals this weekend

Leuven Grote Markt

The Flemish Brabant Tourist Office has lined up two more English-speaking guides to introduce you to two lovely areas of the province this weekend, October 5-6, 2019.

Discover the Taste of Leuven

This walking tour will be led by a local expert who will take you to Leuven’s loveliest spots, including the UNESCO heritage site, the Groot Begijnhof. Apparently you’ll even get to take a few shortcuts that even the local residents don’t know about.

Leuven beguinage or Groot Begijnhof

You’ll get to know a bit about the history of the city, and along the way you’ll be able to sample some of the local food specialities (so think cheese, beer and chocolate!).

It takes place on Saturday 5th October at 14:00, starting from Leuven Town Hall. It costs 20 euro per person, which includes a drink and three food tastings. You have to book up in advance by emailing info@leuveninsideout.com

If you can’t make this trip, don’t despair. On this blog you can find all about the Leuven Groot Begijnhof, to inspire you to visit it yourself when you have the opportunity. Or you can check out this post on what to see in Leuven. I especially recommend the Leuven Botanical Garden and St. Peter’s Church.

Explore the Sonian Forest

On Sunday 6th October it’s time to get your walking boots on for a guided walk around the Arboretum of Tervuren in the Sonian Forest.

This scenic and interesting open-air museum was built over a century ago at the request of King Leopold II. Over 700 different tree species from Europe, Asia and America grow here, but your local nature guide won’t be introducing you to all 700 of them.

A forest trail through the woods

Starting point is the Arboretum Parking on Vlaktedreef, 3080 Tervuren, which is at the end of Jezus-Eiklaan. Be there at 10:00 for the 2-hour morning walk.

It costs just 2 EUR per person, and you can book here.

Again, if this Sunday doesn’t fit your schedule, check out my post on Walking and Cycling in the Sonian Forest, which explains where to go, what to see and the best places to start exploring this beautiful forest.
