Walk around Wonck in the province of Liège

Wonck

A 10 km country walk around Wonck, a village in the province of Liège.

This post is a partner post to the one on The Tower of Eben-Ezer. In other words you can combine the two and enjoy a full day out in this lovely region of east Belgium. How about a walk around Wonck in the morning, and a castle visit in the afternoon?

I parked in the car park at the Tower and followed the route on the map below. You can get the GPX coordinates from my RouteYou page, and download the map as a PDF here.

It’s a very pleasant walk along quiet country lanes, across fields and through a couple of small copses. It gives you some refreshing views over the undulating landscape of both Wallonia and Flanders. The walk is in Wallonia but you’ll be right on the border, looking into Flanders. Here are a few photos of walking around Wonck.

If it’s open, you could get a bit to eat and a drink at the Moulin du Broukay

      1. Well I notice that there is a lot more choice of walking and cycling route on Wikiloc and Gpsies than RouteYou. Whether I will use Wikiloc or Gpsies to display my own routes remains to be seen. For the moment I am happy to use other people’s routes and link back to them. I find that following other hikers’ routes (including yours!) takes me to places I would never have considered myself.

    1. Thanks Anabel, it was certainly a lovely morning walk. I must go back there in the spring. I saw a noticeboard saying that wild bee and fly orchids grow in the meadows over there.

  1. It’s a beautiful place for a walk in this region ,i love the little hills and the little villages over there…beautiful scenery on your pictures Denzil !

  2. Denzil – beautiful pictures – I am definitely adding this area to my “places to see” – I may need to start a separate list called “places to walk and stop to have a good Belgian beer.”

  3. That moulin looks rather inviting. I do like stone buildings. Good place for a Christmas drink (if they’re open, of course 🙂 ) Wishing you health and happiness in 2017, Denzil. Enjoy your walking!

      1. It was beautiful. I love to walk. Carol introduced me to a couple of you who enjoy posting walks. My page, http://wp.me/P7tP3I-gS, lists photo challenges online, and Carol talked about your blog and Restless Jo’s Walks. I only took the time to look at both blogs briefly because Carol and I are on vacation together in Melbourne. I live in California, so it’s a busy walking time in real time. 🙂 Hope to get better acquainted with you in the near future. 🙂

    1. Hi Mary! Any friend of Carol is a friend of mine! I hope you both have a lovely vacation in Melbourne, and I hope Cyclone Debbie does not stray down your way. Thanks for your comments on my blog; much appreciated.
