My recommendations for where to stay in Bruges encompassing luxury hotels; top B&Bs; budget hotels; and self-catering apartments.
Bruges is one of Europe’s most popular city-break destinations. Each year, around 8 million people visit this compact UNESCO World Heritage city in north-west Belgium famed for its canals, cobbled streets and medieval architecture. That’s many times more than its roughly 120,000 residents, making Bruges one of Europe’s most visited cities per capita.
Most visitors come from nearby European countries, with visitors from the Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom regularly among the top, followed by growing numbers from the United States and other regions.
Bruges is perfect for a short break such as a long weekend or a few days surrounding a holiday. In the wider Flanders region (which includes Bruges), tourists spend an average of about 2.4 nights on their trips, indicating that 2-3 days is a common and comfortable length of stay.
Because Bruges is so compact and popular, accommodation books up early in peak seasons like Spring Break (March-May). If you’re planning a visit to Bruges, it therefore makes sense to secure your preferred place well in advance. It can make the difference between a dreamy stay and limited options. Early booking also helps you lock in better rates and choice locations near the Markt, canals or historic centre.
