Discover more of Belgium with the GPSmyCity app

I love sharing my walks and city trips with my readers via this blog. And I am always pleased when I am able to introduce readers to an alternative way to make this information more easily accessible. One such way is GPSmyCity. I’ve been using GPSmyCity for a few years now, and am very pleased with the results.

What is GPSmyCity?

I think GPSmyCity is one of the most useful travel apps around, especially for frequent travellers. Basically it’s a phone app that converts travel blog posts into interactive guides. It puts all the places in the post on a map and lets you read the article and follow the recommendations in it using an offline map. Yes – offline! This means you are not limited by dodgy internet issues. Nor do you rack up roaming charges if they apply to you. It really makes the experience of discovering a new city simple, inexpensive, and fun. All you have to do is choose a walking tour, download it, and follow the map.

Two free giveaways!

If you are new to GPSmyCity, you may be thinking of trying it out and taking it on a test run – or walk. Well, you’re in luck! I am making available not just one but TWO of my new offline travel articles for FREE! For two weeks, from April 21 to May 5, 2025, you can download the two walks below for free:

“How to Spend a Day in Antwerp’s Historic Centre”

Visit the Grote Markt, the Cathedral, a “hidden” passageway, a tunnel under the river, stop off at a couple of museums if you have the time, and finish at Antwerp’s oldest pub! (And more!).

“How to Spend a Day in Charleroi”

Charleroi may not be as famous as some other cities in Belgium, but it’s got a lot to see. Use this city walk to discover sights such as Place Charles II, Saint-Christophe Church, Maison Dorée, Parc Reine Astrid, Rive Gauche Shopping Center, and the Musée de la Photographie.

A mostly urban 11 km walk around the town and industrial landscape of Vilvoorde. These include a canal, a river, bridges old and new, a picturesque park, and street art.

“How to Spend a Day in Lier”

Lier is a charming Belgian town with cobbled streets, beautiful architecture, and a relaxed atmosphere. Spend a day in Lier and get to know sites such as the the Zimmer Tower, the Astronomical Clock, the

“Horst Castle”

Horst Castle is special because it’s authentic. Most of the castles in Flanders were renovated or rebuilt in the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries, but at Horst nothing happened; everything stood still after 1658. The nearby woods are worth exploring too.

“Castle of Lavaux-Sainte-Anne”

The Castle of Lavaux-Sainte-Anne features three museums and a nature reserve. Particularly interesting are the Museum of the Life of the Lords of Lavaux in the 17th century, and the Museum of Rural Life presents everyday objects, customs and rural festivals of the late 19th century.

“Museum Hof van Busleyden in Mechelen”

This impressive museum focuses on the Golden Age of the Southern Netherlands. It has an outstanding collection of artwork from the 15th and 16th centuries, plus exhibits that cleverly bridge the gap between then and now.
