Discover a gentle and fun way to explore Belgium (and beyond) with Mile a While, an international hiking group based in Belgium.
If you love the idea of hiking but don’t fancy tackling extreme peaks or planning every last detail yourself, Mile a While might be just what you’re looking for. This international hiking group, based in Belgium, offers regular day and multi-day hikes in Belgium and across Europe. All is at a relaxed, accessible pace and guided by experienced leaders.
You don’t need to be super-fit, own a car, or know every trail in the Ardennes. You just turn up at the pick-up point, lace up your boots, and let someone else handle the logistics. Along the way you discover new landscapes, share the trail with people from around the world, and return home pleasantly tired, refreshed, and already thinking about the next outing.

What is Mile a While?
Mile a While is an international hiking community for people living in or near Belgium who enjoy exploring on foot without the stress of organizing everything themselves.
- Based in Belgium, with hikes across the country and in neighbouring countries
- Regular day and multi-day trips – often at weekends or over public holidays
- Nothing too demanding – achievable distances and elevation for regular walkers
- Guided by experts who know the routes, terrain, and local highlights.
It’s ideal if you’re new to Belgium, short on time to plan your own trips, or simply prefer to hike in good company with everything taken care of.

Why join an international hiking group?
Beyond the obvious “fresh air and exercise”, joining Mile a While comes with a whole range of benefits:
Meet people from around the world
Walk alongside fellow hikers of all ages and backgrounds, from expats and internationals to Belgium-based locals who love the outdoors.
Enjoy the hike – leave logistics to the organizers

Feel safe and supported on the trail
Guided hikes mean you’re not alone if you’re unsure about your fitness, the terrain, or the weather.
Travel more sustainably
Shared transport (tourist bus, mini-vans, car-sharing) means fewer cars on the road and a lighter footprint.
Perfect for solo walkers
If you’d love to hike but don’t always have friends or family to join you, Mile a While gives you an instant trail community.

Upcoming hikes with Mile a While
If this sounds tempting, here’s what’s coming up soon:
29 November 2025 – Day trip: Hiking in Saarland (Germany)
Mile a While will take you to one of Saarland’s most enchanting hiking areas, with, dense forests and dramatic rock formations; one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the region; and 12 km guided hike at a comfortable pace. Transport is by tourist bus/mini-vans/cars. Pick-up points in Brussels and Leuven.
6 December 2025 – Day trip: Hiking in the Tros Marets valley (Belgium)
Nestled in the heart of the Ardennes, this trail offers peaceful forests and streams; a sense of adventure as you follow the river through the valley; and classic Belgian hill country without being extreme. If you’d like to experience the Ardennes with a friendly group rather than hiking alone, this is a great place to start.
Practicalities: membership & how to join
Mile a While works on a simple model:
- Membership costs just 5 EUR: This gives you access to their hikes and community – excellent value if you plan to join even a couple of trips.
- Trips are individually priced: Day trips (like Saarland) include transport and guided hikes. Multi-day trips cover more complex logistics.
- Clear information online: Each hike comes with details about distance, difficulty, timings and what to bring, so you know exactly what to expect.
- You don’t need to be an expert hiker. A reasonable level of fitness, comfortable footwear, and a willingness to explore are usually enough.
